Photodynamic therapy of cancer cells using folate conjugated gold nanoparticles as a new nanoplatform for targeted cancer therapy

Photodynamic therapy works through photo activation of a specific photosensitizer in tumor the presence oxygen. PDT is widely applied oncology to treat various cancers as it has minimally invasive procedure and high selectivity, does not interfere with other treatments, can be repeated needed. A large amount reactive oxygen species (ROS) singlet generated cancer cell during PDT, which destroys effectively. In this study, explained utilization gold nanoparticles photodynamic primary liver colorectal that showed NPs exerted cytotoxic effects on cells dose dependent manner. study also used folic acid (a water-soluble vitamin) ligand increase targeting were over-expressing folate receptors for their rapid proliferation. The results conjugated Au significant effect (decrease viability) (p˂0.001) upon irradiations enhanced significantly comparing alone.
